The first Super Cup, an annual national paintball event run by the South African Regional Paintball League (SARPL), took place at Forever Resort Gariep over the weekend of 6 to 8 December 2013. The resort was chosen because it sits in the middle of South Africa. More than 50 teams played in two divisions in both the 3-man and 5-man formats.
The format
- 3-man: 32 teams from across South Africa and Namibia, in Division 4 and Division 5.
- 5-man: 20 teams from across South Africa, in Division 3 and Division 4.
Through the 2013 SARPL season, teams played in the five provinces that held official events: Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape, Eastern Cape and the Free State. To win a provincial leg, a team's top four scores were added to its Super Cup score. The national ranking worked the same way, using each team's overall top four scores plus Super Cup.
International guests
The American PSP professional team Houston Heat attended, along with Dynasty professional player Ryan Greenspan and former Joy Division professional Maximus Lundqvist. Houston Heat played exhibition games against local teams on Friday and Saturday. International media included Rody Huibers of RSH Media (Netherlands), Joel Pitra of Social Paintball (USA) and Ryan Kenny of RK Productions (USA).
A trade show gave South African vendors and international brand representatives a place to show their latest products, including the GI Sportz Pulse loader, the Dye DM14 and the Planet Eclipse Geo3.1.
